 - The suspensory ligament starts as one big ligament behind the knee (carpus), runs down
behind the cannon bone, then splits into two branches that run to the level of the fetlock.
At the fetlock, two small branches run forward on either side of the pastern and connect
to a tendon, the common digital extensor, in front of the coronary band (where the skin
meets the hoof).
